Intraday trailing drawdown counts the high your open trade prints

Every new high-water mark your open position prints becomes a new floor, whether or not you close there.

Letting a winner run and giving it back is not neutral — it is a permanent transfer from your cushion to the firm. Taking partial profit is what converts the raised floor into balance you keep.

This is the harshest of the three mechanics, and it is not the only one on offer: The5ers runs a static floor that never moves at all, and on a static account a strong start buys real safety instead of dragging the fail level up behind you.

Apex freezes the trailing threshold
at your starting balance plus $100

Apex Trader Funding stops the threshold moving once the floor reaches your starting balance plus $100. Until then, every new peak drags the fail level along behind you.

After the lock, the account behaves like a static one and the $100 is permanent locked-in profit.

A live trailing floor may sit higher
than your closed balance shows

The calculator works from the peak you enter. If you are holding an open position that is up on the day, the firm is already tracking a high your closed balance has not recorded.

On a real-time trailing account, assume the floor is at least as high as your best unrealized moment.

Apex sells this rule as its Intraday product and an end-of-day version alongside it. The figures here are the Intraday one.

Rules last checked July 2026. Confirm against the firm's own documentation before you trade — firms change loss limits and lock levels without much notice.

Which floor you trade against changes the account more than any other rule. All three in one place: the prop firm drawdown calculator. Common drawdown questions

What is intraday trailing drawdown?
A loss floor that follows your highest account balance in real time, including unrealized profit on open positions. Any new high-water mark raises the level that fails the account.
Does unrealized profit count toward trailing drawdown?
On a real-time trailing account, yes. If an open trade takes the account to a new high, the floor rises with it even if you never close the position at that price.
Which prop firms use intraday trailing drawdown?
Apex uses a real-time trailing threshold that follows the highest balance including open trades, and locks once it reaches your starting balance plus $100. Apex also sells an end-of-day version of the same account.
How do I stop the floor from rising against me?
You cannot stop it, but you can convert it. Taking profit turns a raised floor into balance you keep; letting a winner round-trip raises the floor and leaves you nothing for it.
